Dream of Sovereign, Islamic Bangladesh with Kolkata comes forth

Dr. Subramanian Swamy’s assertion a couple of days back over the rising clout of Bangladeshi infiltrators in India and the obligation of Bangladesh, abiding by the principles of humanity and also of global polity to retain harmony, to compensate India with land has been retorted with strength and the speaker is Shah Alam Pradhan, president of Jatiyo Gonatantrk Party (National Democratic Party) or JAGPA in Bangladesh, known for its far-right politics. JAGPA, at the moment, is a key member of the 18 party alliance led by BNP and enjoys bonhomie with other Islamist parties in the country. While reacting to Swamy’s statements at the Jatiya Press Club (National Press Club) in Dhaka on April 21, Shah Alam Pradhan threatened to make a new, sovereign Bangladesh including Kolkata.      

Dr. Subramanian Swamy, while expressing his apprehensions on the unchecked and also mounting infiltration from Bangladesh at Guwahati, had stated explicitly, “If Bangladesh does not agree to take back its people, then the country should compensate by giving land to India.” He did not end here but went on saying, “I am extremely distressed by the extent of illegal infiltration from Bangladesh. According to my estimate, one-third of Bangladesh's population lives in India." Simultaneously, he termed the viewpoint as entirely personal and not of his party or BJP. Expressing his concerns that the chronicle of secularism in India would be endangered if infiltration of "a particular religion" is allowed to go on, he said, "We have to be very careful, otherwise our secularism will be threatened."

Even if the statement was made a personal note by an aged and erudite leader of BJP like Dr. Subramanian Swamy, it has already led to a political brouhaha and the reaction is being felt in Dhaka most. Islamist political arena in Bangladesh refuses to miss this chance and the comment of Shah Alam Pradhan, to be precise, expressed desire a large section of Bangladeshi populace. The chock-a-block meeting was attended by other members of JAGPA including GM Abdul Aziz, Alamgir Majumdar, Khandkar Lutfar Hussain, Professor Iqbal Hussain, Abdur Rehman Khan. While addressing the crowd, apart from threatening India by forming a sovereign Bangladesh including Kolkata, Shah Alam Pradhan also expressed how the autobiography of Sheikh Mujibur Rehman or Bangabandhu states of the profound contribution of East Pakistan behind the development of both Kolkata and Assam. Hence, Bangladesh has a legitimate claim over Kolkata and it will be included once India endeavors to impugn the national identity of Bangladesh.

It is worthwhile to mention that ceaseless Hindu persecution in Bangladesh has made victims (from time to time) there to think of using extra-constitutional measures to stop the curse of oppression. But none has materialized thus far. On the contrary, the Mughalistan project or the dream of establishing an independent homeland for the Muslims of India has not remained within four walls or study groups of intellects. According to this plan devised by Mughalstan Research Institute (MRI) of Jahangir Nagar University (Bangladesh) led by intelligence agencies like ISI of Pakistan and DGFI of Bangladesh, Mughalistan will include North India and Eastern India in its entirety and will be formed by merging Pakistan and Bangladesh through a large corridor of land running across the Indo-Gangetic plain, the heartland of India.  Kolkata is the first and foremost target in this conspiracy.
